Follow the Trail of Wandering Sheep
One felt maker's rambling, what worked, what didn't, what surpised me and what was just hard work.
adventures in nuno felt

I've been wanting to experiment with nuno felt for awhile now. Nuno felt is when you felt wool onto another fabric, often leaving bits of the base fabric to show through. You can get some really cool effects and use much less wool. I would like to eventually make a nuno felted dress. I am very pleased with this sample I made. Its about 15" by 30" and I think I have enough materials to do another. I used a border leister wool on top of a very loose cotton gauze. I simply laid the wool out in a cross hatch pattern, so there is only one layer of wool in most places except for where two pieces intersect.

What is so attractive to me about this piece is how it feels. Because there is so much less wool it drapes like no other felt I've ever made (well most felt doesn't actually drape at all.) I wish blogs could be hands on.
